We recommend that you have maintenance of your Familybike carried out by a professional bicycle Mechanic after every 500 km, or at least once a year, but there are a few things you can do at home to take care of your bike and prolong its life.
We have written a Recommendation and Solutions paragraph, which works as a general guide to all Cargo Bike owners, that we strongly recommend all of our customers to read. In this Blog post, we will mention the top 3 recommendations, but if you want to read them all, you can find them here.
General Maintenance
In general, your cargo bike should stay dry, so always place your Familybike under a shelter, in the garage, or the bike cellar when possible, and we recommend always taking the battery into the house with you.
Your cargo bike should be washed with a normal garden hose and not with a high-pressure cleaner and then wiped with a cotton cloth. Be careful not to point the water jet directly at the battery and electrical parts.
After washing your family bike, you should always lubricate it, the chain and bearings are the most important elements to be lubricated. Always use an oil from a specialist shop that is intended for chains or bearings.
Take care of your Battery
Never store the battery in freezing weather for a long time. Always use the original charger, and always wait until the battery has reached room temperature before connecting it to the charger. This way, you ensure that no condensation occurs due to the temperature differences and the battery is not damaged.
Do not switch on the charging switch until the battery is connected to the charger, and always switch off the charger after the battery has been removed or when the battery is charged.
Movable Parts
Movable parts are often not covered by the Warranty, and it is therefore important to take care of these yourself.
Broken Spokes, Wheels and Rims: We use some of the thickest, most powerful spokes on our Familebikes. When we see faults on the spokes, it is almost always due to a lack of or insufficient service or misuse. During regular service (once a year), the spokes must be checked and, if necessary, tightened again. You can also take care of the movable parts on your cargo bike by avoiding riding over the pavement/curb or similar.
